Born and raised between Texas and Arkansas, Jason Hess grew up wanting to make films. He cut his teeth as the in-house one-man-band for Children's Medical Center Dallas, then, after film school at SMU and 8 years running that department, grabbed his camera and spent 6 months on the Appalachian Trail figuring out what came next. What came next was freelance.

Since then he's worked nearly every seat on a crew — camera operator, DP, editor, motion control, producer, director — on projects ranging from a feature-length IMAX film to an Emmy-nominated NatGeo polar bear documentary, an Oscar-winning short film, his own Telly Award-winning short documentary Amazingly Woven, a stunt show for Red Bull, national commercials for Samsung and Toyota, and pieces for NFL Films.

He's also produced ongoing video work for nonprofit client Carry The Load, including the Telly Award-winning The Carry The Load Spirit.

These days Jason runs his own practice out of Dallas, focused on sports, corporate, and nonprofit documentary-style video — helping clients not just capture footage but shape it into a story worth telling. Old-school note: he still thinks tungsten and HMI throw the prettiest light, LEDs be damned.

Got a story that needs telling? Let's talk.
